Flipz the Gym for Kids, a place where kids have fun, grow confidence, move and learn. Flipz is located in Concord on Industrial Park Drive. It is locally owned and operated by a supportive mother-daughter team. Robyn and Jordan are co-owners and both fully involved. Every time you enter the gym you are welcomed by one of them if not both.
Flipz the Gym for Kids offers 3 different classes for ages 1 to 8.
I got to have a conversation with Robyn, one of the owners who told me the background and beliefs of the gym.
Tell us about Flipz the Gym for Kids, the timeline and growth.
From 1989 to 2000 I owned a gym when I was living in California named Gymnastics Express. When moving to New Hampshire I worked at a few local gyms in the area. I felt strongly about wanting to reopen a gym. A gym that allows kids to move, have fun and learn gymnastics skills. In 2003 I opened Flipz Gymnastics. In 2011 we started the USA Ninja Challenge out of Flipz Gymnastics. Jordan joined me in 2023 full time and we are co-owners. We just recently moved the gym to Commercial St. The space we are in now is a larger space, more open and has AC!
What inspired you to open a gymnastics gym?
I wanted to open a gymnastics gym for kids to have fun. I wanted to have a gymnastics school in a different way and give an alternative. It is a beautiful sport where you can enjoy your body and be proud of yourself. We teach the basics of gymnastics. We give kids the space and opportunity to learn at their own pace. Every week there is a different set up with the equipment. Different skills to use and practice as they go through the gym.
What do you hope every child walks away with after taking a class at Flipz?
A smile - I want them to leave happy and wanting to come back. I don’t want kids coming in being afraid. A space to enjoy their time with their family.
What is Flipz Gym’s overall philosophy?
Confidence through movement. Children build confidence by doing things. Not necessarily being taught but being able to experience things. If you move your body and take calculated risks it allows kids to build confidence. We want to build a community and give families a third space. A spot where we can all make lifelong connections.
What is one thing you are most proud of being a successful business owner?
That we made it! We have been in business for 22 years. We have made it through covid, economic ups and downs and everything in between. I am fully involved and anytime you come it will be either Jordan or I if not both of us.
